Attachment theory Essay Example for Free

Attachment theory EssayAttachment is an important means in a tykes sustenance. It makes them feel safe and secure. The infants tendency to seek the closeness to particular sight and to feel more than secure in their presence. (Erikson 1976)I deal that when Erikson made this statement, what he was actu each(prenominal)y saying was that an attachment is when a sister is more comfortable in a setting if they be with the people they be closest to and the people that they like to be with and seek attention of these people more than others. Attachment is like a piece of invisible string that binds individuals in a way that allows a healthy development (psychology for AS level). This statement in my opinion states that an attachment which forms a bond between the people intricate is important for good development for the minor. What happens if there isnt a bond or an attachment in the small frys life? I am going to look into leash different psychologists theories on attachment and see what their opinions on the subject atomic number 18.The first psychologist I am looking into is Bowlby. Bowlby had very strong opinions on attachment and the yearn term affects a lack of a bond or attachment can have on a childs life. Bowlby believed that a child should form genius and only(prenominal) one strong attachment which should be with the get down of the child. This is cognisen as monotrophy. The father in Bowlbys eyes was there for the making of the baby only and would show no input or importance in the childs upbringing.Bowlby came to the conclusion that children who failed to form this bond with their mother in the first three years of the childs life would have problems in later life adhere with people and trusting people. He also described a child with a lack of bonding to be an affectionless psychopath, which he described to be someone who shows lack of guilt when done something wrong has difficulties showing emotion to things around them or someone w ith doings problems. Another affect of not having an attachment in this critical period as it was also known in Bowlbys eyes was development retardation which meant the child may grow up with learning difficulties or slower intellectual skills. The next psychologist I am going to discuss is Mary Ainsworth. Ainsworth investigated bonding and bust it down into different sections. She broke it down it to three different types of attachment. These were secure attachments, anxious avoidant attachments and anxious resistant attachments.Secure attachments were described as the strongest of the three. This is where the children know they are loved and dispensed for and they feel secure with the person they have bonded to. When they are left-hand(a)(p) without their attachment figure for the first clipping they pull up stakes show lots of regret and turnover rate. However after time they will get used to being left and they will not be as distressed as time gos on.Anxious avoidant attachment is not as strong as the secure attachment and the bond it weaker. These children seem more independent and can manage nice tasks on their own. This may be due to a change in the attachment figures attitude or behaviour towards the child which may be caused by death or separation from a partner. This can also be caused by separation from child and attachment figure due to illness or separation at birth. This attachment is usually weaker because of the lack of full trust from either party.Anxious resistant attachment is similar to anxious avoidant attachment yet the child often is more clingy and seeks more attention to people as well as the attachment figure further when people tries to comfort them they will often not accept the comfort. The last psychologists I am going to look at are Shaffer and Emerson. Shaffer and Emersons theory is the one Ainsworth used to conclude her investigations. They looked more at children with multiple attachments which contradicts Bowl bys theory which said only one strong attachment can be made. They broke their findings down in to four sections. These sections are Asocial stage which is children of 0-2, the indiscriminate stage, children of 2-7 calendar months, specific stage which is children of 7 months plus and then finally multiple attachment.Asocial stage is described to be where the children immemorial 0-2 months will respond to human faces but will not show any main distress towards whom it is they are with. This means that if you placed a 0-2 month baby in a day upkeep setting then they will not really kick much of a fuss when their mother leaves them they will usually be happy and content as long as they are getting some attention. On my spot while I was working in the 0-2 room the youngest child there at the time was only 6 weeks old she would come to nursery with no hassle all day after her nap she would sometimes cry a little catch until she got some attention. She was happy when her mum came to get her but she didnt cry for her when she wasnt there. Where as one of the oldest children who was nearly 18 months used to cry for her mum nearly all day, she only seemed happy when she was eating. The indiscriminate stage is for children from 2 month up until 7 month. These children are more aware of what is happening and they know who they prefer to communicate time with usually in most cases it is the main care giver, but they will still be ok and not too worried around strangers and unknown faces. The specific stage is where one strong attachment is clean-cut and the child becomes very weary and anxious around unknown people. This is usually why when a child over 7 months is brought into a child care setting, they take a while to settle and cry for their carer.Multiple attachments are where the child is close to or has an attachment with more than one person. This is often when they spend a lot of time with these people as well as their care givers. These people can include g rand levys, extended family, neighbours and realistically people who they spend a lot of time with and they feel safe around. As some of the theorists mentioned above said they would be distress when a child was left or was separated from their attachment figure its is important that children get used to a setting before being brought and left alone. In some child care setting they hold visits for the children where they can come with their attachment figure and see the setting and play with the other children to see what it is like and to get to know the care workers faces first. In my placement they do this over a period of 6 visits(longer if child is very unsettled) to avoid too much stress and upset for the new children coming to nursery each time a visit takes place the attachment figure will stay a little bit less than the time before leaving the child with the other children and care givers. This way they feel that the child gets used to not having their mother there all the t ime and also gets to know the other people in the setting and environment.Another way the children help settle in the nurseries or child care setting is they are allowed to bring with them a transitional object with them to comfort them when they get upset. One child in my placement had a pink dampen which she has all the time when she is upset. When she settles down she often puts it down a leaves it on the floor, at this point the care worker picks it up discreetly and puts it in her box. They do this because they feel if she is playing nice and contently then she sees the cushion she will pick it up and carry it round again where as if it is out of the way the child will hopefully play for a longer amount of time. The child gets it back if she asks for it or if she becomes distressed on upset in anyway. In my placement to avoid too much stress and upset for the new children coming to nursery, they have an induction period. This is where the child will come in to the nursery with t heir parent to have a look around, meet the staff and the other children in the setting. The child gets to play with the toys and will start to get used to the setting so when its time for their parent to leave then it wont be so distressing. When a child is in the setting some of the parents come and visit the child during lunch time or if they get a break at work. This was good for some children as it reassured the children that their parents were coming back for them and they hadnt just left them forever. For some children however this was not beneficial and the situation was more distressing for them having to say bye to their carer all over again.

Landfill And Material Recycling In Malaysia

Landfill And Material recycle In MalaysiaThe generation of straightforward elope, and particularly Municipal Solid hazardous, is a gist of modem living and an increasingly urbanized society. Solid negate pr hithertotion and forethought is superstar of the come upons to sustainable environment and development. excess is defined as an object the be atomic number 18r discards, intends to discard or is required to discard 1-2. Something becomes xerox when it loses its radical function for the manipulationr. vaunt is therefore relative to this primary function. However, and this is the second perspective, what is considered surplus with regard to this primary function may be useful for a secondary function. In other words, somebodys xerox is often somebody elses (secondary) bleak material 1. Solid chase away can be typically classified as municipal substantiality state fluff including plastic waste (MSW), construction and demolition waste (CD), hazardous solid state was tes (HW), bio-medical waste (BMW), and electronic waste (e-waste) 3. Municipal solid waste (MSW) watchfulness comprises of shapes ranging from waste collection to final presidential term which is connected in numerous slipway to many other environmental, economic, and social issues with more or less of the answers having broader implications. Sustainable waste commission is ab come forward using resources more efficiently both at the raw and sinless state 4-7. Looking from the perspective of sustainable waste management practices and the environment, the technologies or policies on MSW management should embody a reasonable balance of feasible, cost- efficient, environmentally beneficial, and socially sensitive solutions to the problems. It means that a sustainable waste management practice does not only achieve a specific goal in MSW management, it takes into notice the demands of the specific situations where the proposed solution is to be implemented 8. Solid waste managem ent is a major challenge for Malaysia to address in the light of her Vision 2020 which lays out the direction for Malaysia in becoming a fully developed nation. The National Vision Policy (NVP), developed to meet the challenges posed by Vision 2020, incorporates key strategies of the New Economic Policy (NEP) and the National Development Policy (NDP). A key thrust of the NVP is pursuing environmentally sustainable development to reinforce long offset, which presents challenges to open up policies and practices in the speedyly expanding ara of solid waste management 9.Waste Management ConceptsThere are a number of concepts close waste management which vary in their usage betwixt countries or regions. The following are some of the most general, widely used conceptsWaste hierarchy The waste hierarchy is the 3R concept where the R stands for strangle, reuse and recycle, it classify waste management strategies according to their desirability to achieving waste minimization. The wa ste hierarchy remains the cornerstone of most waste minimization strategies. The aim of the waste hierarchy is to extract as much as possible the maximum practical benefits from products and to generate the minimum essence of waste 10-12.Polluter Pays Principle the polluter pays principle is a principle where the polluting party pays for the impact caused to the environment. With respect to waste management, this generally refers to the requirement for a waste generator to pay for assign disposal of the unrecoverable material 10-13.In Malaysia context, the waste hierarchy is the practice adopted for municipal solid waste management 14-19. It is a major focus of the Solid Waste and Public Cleansing Act two hundred7.OVERVIEW OF MUNICIPAL SOLID WASTE GENERATION IN MALAYSIAMunicipal solid waste MSW management is a major challenge in urban areas throughout the world with greater effect in the rapidly growing cities and towns of develop countries 20. Globally, municipal solid waste ge neration was about 0.49 billion tons in 1997 with an estimated annual growth rate of 3.2-4.5% in developed nations and 2-3% in develop nations 21. In Asia region, MSW generation has been increasing at a rate of 3 to 7% per form as a result of population growth, changing aspiration patterns, and the expansion of trade and industry in urban centres. The generation of municipal solid waste by the human race is a function of socio-economic background (buying power), cultural background, locality (urban or rural setting) and the environment sentiency. The generation and the art object of solid wastes vary according to size/population and income aim 22-24. Malaysian population has been in the increase at a rate of about 2.4% per annum since 1994 25 due to industrialization, urban migration, affluence, population growth, tourism and high influx of foreign workforce/students which has clue to spacious developmental projects such as building the latest designs of residential and bu siness buildings, construction of spacious highways, touring car resorts and so on 7, 22, 26-27. The growing population comes with increase generation of municipal solid waste (MSW), which requires proper management to protect the people and the environment. As the solid waste generation increases in Malaysia, it puts a hale on and shortens the duration time of, the existing landfill 28. In Malaysia, waste collection varies from city to city with about 80% generated waste collection in Kuala Lumpur darn a general average estimate of about 70% of waste generated in Malaysia is cool and 1-5% of waste is recycled (from the collected waste) while the remaining is taken to the disposal sites 29-30. The major MSW management practice in Malaysia is waste disposal to landfill with approximately 80-95% of the total collected waste sent to landfills 31-34. Current waste disposal rule of landfill needs cleansements to prolong the landfill life and to minimize the problem of land scarcity 31. In 2007 about 26 million tonnes of waste were produced in Malaysia of which 30% were municipal solid waste (MSW), 34% from construction, industrial waste 23%, Hazardous waste 9% and 1% waste generation from public places 35. The average arrive of MSW generated ranges between 0.5 and 0.8 kg/cap/ twenty-four hours for rural areas and smaller towns 22, 27, 36 while households of major cities and the capital Kuala Lumpur produce about 1.7 kg/cap/day 1.9 kg/cap/day 9, 14, 22, 37. The daily MSW quantity was 17,000 tonnes per day in 2002 and by year 2020, the quantity of MSW generated is estimated to increase to over 30,000 tonnes per day 14, 23, 26, 32, 36, 38-39. MSW management operations draw large portions of municipal operating budgets, of which as much as 60% are for collection and transfer of the wastes for disposal 8, 29. For a better beneathstanding and think of solid waste management, information on the quantity of solid waste generated in an area is fundamental to alm ost all aspects of solid waste management 40.Malaysia Waste CharacterizationThe municipal solid waste (MSW) in Malaysia is made up of waste from households, commercial, institutes, landscape conservation, street cleansing, and industry construction and even tourist activities 14, 30, 32-33, 38. Characteristics of MSW vary from city to city and season to season 8. The solid wastes of rural towns in Malaysia are significantly different from those of large cities, having more organics (food wastes) but some plastics. In industrialized cities MSW is quantified and characterized by municipal authorities at regular intervals. Malaysian municipal solid waste (MSW) generated consists of different constituents such as perishable materials (food waste, Garden waste, Animal waste and Material contaminated by such waste) which has high moisture fill and a bulk density above 200 kg/m3, resistant polymers, report card, Wood, Textiles, Leather, Plastic, Rubber, Paint, oil, grease, chemical, or ganic sludge, glass, ceramic, mineral soil, concrete, and masonry (construction debris) 7, 14. In the MSW waste analysis by Saeed 22, it shows that about 48% of municipal solid waste generated are from residential, 24% commercial generated waste, 11% from street cleaning, 7% from landscape conservation, 6% from institutional waste and 4% from industry and construction 32.A waste characterization aim for the city of Kuala Lumpur shows that the main components of Malaysian waste were food, paper, and plastic which comprise 80% of overall weight 22, 24, 38 with high moisture content ranging from 52.6% to 66.2% 22-23, 29, 41-43. High moisture content in waste reduces power think of of waste and creates extra cost in the use of the waste as refuse derived fuel (RDF) or even incineration because the waste might need to be dried before incinerating. Similarly increasing pressure and temperature in the pile of solid waste or landfill favours the growth of leachate from solid waste which if not controlled might enter into the ground and surface water and can be dangerous for human health 22, 24, 44. From literature, the waste composition seems to be variable. However, the main part of Malaysia MSW is organic waste according to data from the ninth Malaysia Plan, Malaysia MSW composition is estimated about 45% of food waste, 24% of plastic, 7% paper materials, 6% of iron and glass while others made up the remaining persona 32-33, 45. Table 1 shows the average composition by weight percentage of components of MSW generated by various sources in Kuala Lumpur 22 while Table 2 depicts the daily generation of Municipal solid waste by states in Malaysia from year 2000 to year 2010 46.The current generation indicates 60% increase over the past 10 years. The larger amount of Malaysian MSW is recyclables which include paper, plastic, glass, metal and aluminum 46-47. Recyclable items equate over 40% of the total waste volume which without retrieval activity, these valuable ma terials will be disposed off into landfill. The implications of this practice are the lost of these resources and the rapid utilization of the landfill space. Thus, it will reduce the length of the life-span of landfills in the country. The existing waste disposal habit among Malaysians sees a very high possible of diverting waste via cycle. One obstacle in material retrieval practice is that Malaysian MSW is highly commingled. As a result, the waste contains high moisture content and reduces the value of the recyclable items. Sorting at waste generation source will help in reducing the difficulty of high moisture content and improve recycle and resource convalescence, thus extending and maintaining low level of pollution from landfill.SOLID WASTE MANAGEMENT SYSTEM IN MALAYSIASolid waste management in Malaysia is the responsibility of the Ministry of Housing and Local Government (MHLG) with a regulatory body known as National Solid Waste Management Department under this ministry (MHLG) which was established in 2007 36, 45, 48. Local authorities are responsible for public cleansing and have to dispose all collected waste in a sanitary way36. MSW management involves waste collection, transportation, disposal and monitoring of the disposed waste to protect the environment. It was found from literature that waste collection in Malaysia is more sound and efficient in the richer communities than poorer ones 36. In view of achieving an improved system for all local authorities and realizing that the lack of appropriate policy is a factor that averts sustainable waste management in the country, the Solid Waste and Public Cleansing Management bar (SWPCM) was approved in 2007 14-15, 26, 36, 45, 48-49. Solid waste management is one element of the ninth Malaysia plan. This plan implies the upgrading of existing unsanitary landfills, the construction of vernal sanitary landfills and the construction of transfer stations with material recovery facilities with aim of m odify the institutional content of respective agencies as well as creating a society that is committed towards waste minimisation and achieving a recycle target of 22% by 2020 29, 36, 50. The Solid Waste and Public Cleansing Act 2007 was gazette on 30 August 2007 with the focus to pave away for federal take-over of solid waste management and privatization of solid waste handling. Consequential amendments were also made to three other policies 14.Challenges in Solid Waste ManagementLack of appropriate policy is the main constraint to sustainable waste management in Malaysia 46. As a result, the Solid Waste and Public Cleansing Management Bill (SWPCM) was approved in 2007 with the aims of providing an act and regulate the management of solid waste and public cleansing in order to maintain proper sanitation in the country 26. The following are the grossly identified problems which affect the proper handling of solid waste on the side of the management authorities short-handed service coverage and operational inefficiencies of services,Limited utilization of recycling activities,Inadequate landfill disposal, andInadequate management of hazardous and healthcare waste.Waste Management Process and PracticesWaste Collection, Transportation and Disposal Service in MalaysiaMunicipal solid waste collection schemes of cities in the developing world generally serve only a limited part of the urban population 4, 21, 39, 51-57. The people facing more problem of poor waste-collection services are usually the low-income population living in peri-urban areas 58-59. In Kuala Lumpur, 80-90% of the generated MSW is collected however over 60% of the rural population in Malaysia does not have any waste collection service and this has lead to many illegal small dumping sites 9. The most common waste collection process in Malaysia is the door-to-door collection system where trash bins are collected from every household. Inhabitants of high-rise buildings or of informal settlements h ave to bring the waste to communal waste containers 36. Waste separation has not been a common practice in Malaysia and this leads to the collection of all types of waste in one bin 36. The solid management responsibility (collection, transportation and disposal) of 48 Local regime has been privatized since 1st January 1997. Idaman Bersih Sdn Bhd manages the waste for northern region of Peninsular Malaysis, Alam Flora Sdn. Bhd manages the waste generated in the Central and Eastern Region of Peninsular Malaysia while Southern Waste Management Sdn. Bhd manages the waste in the Southern Region of the peninsular 14, 45. The frequency of household waste collections is normally three times a week whereas waste from shops and commercial premises are collected daily 9. From 60, about 50% of the overall subject waste amount collected is open dumped, 30% is landfilled, 10% is composted, 5% is recycled and 5% percent is incinerated. There are about 7 mini-incinerators with capacity between 5 to 20 tones per day owned by the presidential term (located in Pulau Pangkor, Pulau Langkawi, Pulau Tioman and Cameron Highlands) 61 and a private operated incinerator by Recycle Energy Sdn Bhd at Semenyi with a capacity of 1000 Metrics tones per day 23.Waste Recycling and CompostingWaste minimisation is the bed rock of sustainable and sound waste management with global focus on realising a Material Cycle Society. It is the desire to reduce waste generation at source, minimise the amount of waste disposed at landfills and to maximise the efficiency of resource utilisation. Recycling is a practice that utilises raw and finished products more efficiently and effectively. Recycling of inorganic materials from Malaysia municipal solid waste has been a practice by informal sector although such activities are seldom recognised, supported, or recruitd by the municipal authorities 8. Recycling in Malaysia became a presidential term programs in the early 1990s and the first official recy cling campaign was launched in October 1991 in Shah Alam, Selangor by the Minister of Housing and Local Government 5. Twenty local authorities were identified as the lead agencies to promote recycling. This recycling campaign is to be part of the Clean and Beautiful Program launched by the ministry earlier. In 1992, the minister announced that all city and municipal councils would be required to launch recycling programs. On December 2000 the judicature re-launched the national recycling campaign with 29 local authorities participating. The second phase of the new recycling program was launched on 11 November 2002 with 95 local authorities participating. The target was to reduce waste generation to a minimum rate of 22% by the year 2020 5, 23, 62-63. The present recycling program also involves waste management companies, waste recycling firms, Non-Governmental Organizations, shopping mall management companies, schools, hospitals, and religious organizations. During 2001-2003, the g overnment spent MYR25 million on awareness campaigns and another MYR11 million purchasing and building an infrastructure to support the program 5. Recycling campaigns were also carried out by the local authorities such as printing flyers and brochures and holding public briefings. They also provide recycling bins for paper, glass, and aluminium in strategic places, such as shopping centres, schools, and transport terminals. After more than ten years, the official recycling figure is just 5%, although there are reports of higher than 5% recycling. For example, in 2003 Penang Islands recycling rate was 9.8%, up from 3% in 2000 5, 9. Many Malaysians seem to treat recycling bins as an ordinary waste-disposal bin. Indeed, it was so bad that the Penang State government has taken back most of the bins as almost all the recycling bins contain all sorts of waste 5. Although a large amount of Malaysian wastes could be recycled, less than 5% of the total (almost 10,000 tonnes per day) is actua lly separated and recycled. There is a good demand for waste plastics, paper and glass, with resale prices of about US$60 per tonne, US$44 per tonne and US$32 per tone, respectively. Recovery of only 5% of the available waste plastics, paper and glass is estimated to yield a total of about US$3.4 million per year. Recommendations to increase recycling are discussed in the paper 64. More priority is given to recycling in Malaysia than composting.Composting is defined as the biological decomposition of organic matter under controlled aerobic conditions to form a stable, humus-like end product. The process is facilitated by a diverse population of microbes, whose population kinetics vary greatly both temporally and spatially, and generally involves the development of thermophilic temperatures as a result of biologically produced heat 65-66. Composting is applicable to MSW or separately collected leaves, yard, and food waste in Malaysia. The benefits of recycling and composting are the processes cut down the need for disposal capacity and lowers emissions from landfills and incinerators as well as reducing litter. Secondly, the use of recycled materials in industry reduces energy use and emission lessens impact when raw material is extracted or manufactured, and conserves raw materials 67. Recycling also provides a supplementary income source for the lower income group while compost product are used to improve the soil quality 68.Malaysia Waste Potential for RecyclingRecycling in the context of solid waste may be defined as the reclamation of material and its reuse which could include repair, remanufacture and conversion of materials, parts and products. reclamation of materials from solid waste is not something new 69. It is the beneficial-reuse of products that would otherwise be disposed off. It diverts waste from overloaded landfills besides providing raw materials that consume less fuel during the manufacturing process. It is an in-chief(postnominal) aspe ct of an efficient and effective solid waste management system 61. To understand the composition of MSW in Malaysia, an assessment of the waste generated and recyclable potential of Malaysia municipal solid waste conducted for Kuala Lumpur city by Saeed et al 32 shows from their prediction from the current trend of waste generation in Kuala Lumpur city that the MSW has a good potential of recyclables. Table 1 shows the recyclable components and their percentage share and recycling rate in tons per year. The results indicate that, food (organic) waste is the major component followed by mix paper and plastics. But unfortunately the attention paid by the authority towards this direction is not sufficient enough to tackle this issue. The Agenda 21 70, defined environmentally sound technologies as a technology that protect the environment moreover, recycling most of the wastes and handle residual wastes in more delightful manner. Since 1993 a major effort of recycling was launched by th e Ministry of Housing and Local Government but unfortunately limited recycling activities taken place 67.though recycling activity in Malaysia is rising up, the recycling industry still needs to be enhanced. The Malaysians attitude towards recycling is higher, but only few practice it 71.Attitude to the Environmental and Level of Waste Management Awareness in MalaysiaEnvironmental problems are caused directly or indirectly by the patterns of production by industries, patterns of consumption and behaviour of the consumers 72. Attitude is a mental and neural state of readiness, which exerts a directing, square off upon the individuals response to all objects and situations with which it is related 73. Attitudes to the environment are grow in a persons concept of self and the degree to which an individual perceives himself or herself to be an integral part of the natural environment 74. The shaping of attitude and determine, freight and skills needed to preserve and protect the env ironment begins at an early age of which educators play an influential role in developing new patterns of behaviours for individuals 72. In Malaysia, recycling program has been widely initiated since 1993. However, to date the recycling rate in Malaysia is only five percent 75. A survey by Said et al. 72 using dope off and collect method was conducted for 285 school teachers who were randomly selected from ten regular government schools in the state of Selangor, Malaysia to look into the level of knowledge, environmental concern and ecologically sure consumer demeanor and identify the extent of involvement in nature-related activities of school teachers. The result if the survey illustrated the presence of high level of environmental concern among the teachers, fair environmental knowledge but generally poor in understanding of the underlying causes of environmental problems. The practices of environmentally responsible behavior were not in concert with the level of concern and knowledge and the respondents were not actively involved in nature-related activities 72. Another assessment of the level of environmental knowledge among households in Selangor, Malaysia was conducted by Haron et al 76. The subscribe examine the sources of their environmental knowledge, determine factors that lead to different levels of knowledge and analyse the kinship between knowledge and environmental attitude, behaviour and participation. The results of the study indicate that, in general, respondents basic or general environmental knowledge was high. However, when questioned on various scientific environmental terms, the majority of the respondents were not familiar with most of them. Respondents indicated that their main sources of environmental knowledge and information were newspapers, television and radio. Lower levels of education were reflected in the level of environmental knowledge. Participation in environmental activities had a positive influence on knowledge. The study also found that knowledge correlated positively with environmental attitudes, behaviours and participation 76. An investigation/comparison of gender with attitudes towards the environment and ballpark products was conducted by subgenus Chen and Chai 77 and the result of their investigation shows that there were no significant differences between gender in their environmental attitudes and attitudes on green products. The second part of the study investigated the relationship between attitude towards the environment and green products. Result revealed that consumer attitudes on the governments role and their personal norm towards the environment contributed significantly to their attitude on green product. bring forward investigation revealed that personal norm was the most important contributor to the attitude towards green product. However, environmental protection did not contribute significantly to consumers attitudes on green product 77. The media in Malaysia has played a major role in communicating ideas and information on environmental issues but quite unfortunate, at the national level, people are still reluctant to adopt certain measures to reduce their waste disposal impact on the environment 78. Studying the effectiveness of media messages towards pro-environmental behavior of Malaysians, Besar and Hassan 78 explain the relationship between message response and peoples recycling knowledge, attitudes and recycling practice in the workplace context. The analysis inferred that both external motivational (exposure and attention) and internal motivational (involvement and interest) factors are the message response determinant variables that influence message effectiveness. They identified that one area which requires immediate public voluntary participation is in waste management, especially the 3Rs practices. The work suggests that there is poor public participation in environmentally friendly behaviors, namely recycling, as people do not respo nse accordingly to the intended message. They noted that communication and proper enforcement of the law will help boost the recycling rates among the public. An investigation was conducted on the antecedents of recycling intention behaviour among secondary school students using Theory of Planned Behaviour (TPB) by Mahmud 75. The sample consists of 400 randomly selected Form Four students. terce factors that influenced the intention behaviour as hypothesised by the author include specific attitude, subjective norms and perceived behaviour control. The result shows that perceived behaviour control was the strongest forecaster of intention behaviour. Subjective norms are the second strongest predictor of intention to recycle. Specific attitudes were indirect predictor of intention behaviour, via the mediation of subjective norms and perceived behaviour control. The researcher suggested that environmental education in Malaysia school system should focus on elements that can effectiv ely inculcate a pro-environmental behaviour among students 75. A model to determine and analyze the factors that could affect knowledge, attitude and behavior of the urban poor concerning solid waste management was developed by Murad et aj 79. They collected primary data residents of cheap flats of Kuala Lumpur city, Malaysia. The empirical results of the study provide evidence to the effect that knowledge, attitude and behavior of the urban poor communities concerning solid waste management are adequate and passable and the low socio-economic profile of the urban poor has not been proven as causal to environmental degradation 79. In a review on the cipher and environmental disclosure, challenges in environmental information management and some of the strategic implications of environmental reporting as an important tool for improved environmental management with a short case study was presented by Sumiani et al 80. In the case study of 50 companies in Malaysia, 36 reported some winsome of environmental information in their corporate annual reports where most of the companies that gave environment report where ISO certified companies. The study concluded that ISO certification has some level of influence towards voluntary environmental reporting behaviour amongst the sampled Malaysian companies, specifically on pollution abatement and on other environmentally related information categories of environmental information. Making reference to Saeed et al 32, It is obvious that the Malaysia cities are still lacking in terms of efficient waste treatment technology, sufficient fund, public awareness, maintaining the established norms of industrial waste treatment, etc.Recycling is a relatively new exercise in Malaysia. Even though recycling has been introduced years back, lack of public awareness caused a slowdown in the progress of the recycling exercise. Lack of sufficient recycling facilities or the inappropriateness of the facilities location contributed furt her to the slowdown. Over 20,000 tonnes of solid waste is being discarded daily. The Ministry of Housing and Local Government sets a recycling goal to be 22% by 2020. A study on the success of recycling exercise in Subang Jaya, Malaysia was conducted by Chenaya et al 81. The collection rate of recyclables in Subang Jaya is estimated to be 0.43% in 2004 which shows poor recycling activities and was traced to poor awareness of the residents of the area. The study formulates and analyzes various strategies to increase the awareness among the residents and to increase the existing facilities. They employ the outranking analysis and use a new exploitation procedure based on eigenvector using the weighted in- and out- preference flows of each alternative from outranking relation in a PROMETHEE context 81. It was found that environmental education should be made a part of the education and civil system.Waste-Energy Recovery and IncinerationMunicipal solid waste resource recovery is a pract ice where waste with good heating values are derived from the waste by mechanical or manual process and used as fuel (RDF Refuse Derived Fuel). Solid waste resource recovery is not a common practice in Malaysia. Malaysia waste if properly sorted will create a good probability for resource recovery considering the percentage of paper, plastic, wood and textile materials. Promoting waste sorting from source and composting of organic waste will reduce the moisture content of Malaysia solid waste and enhancing the opportunity of resource recovery. RDF can be used as fuel to plants for electricity generation in the country, thus decreasing the greenhouse gas emission from energy utilization by changing from fossil fuels to a partly renewable fuel or incinerated to generate heat for industrial purpose. Incineration is a controlled burning of wastes at a high temperature, sterilizes, stabilizes and reduces waste volume which may be used as disposal option, when the waste composition is h ighly combustible. It is one of the most effective means of dealing with many wastes, to reduce their harmful potential and often to convert them to an energy form. It reduces volume up to ten-fold and thus is becoming particularly captivating in metropolitan areas. Some of the municipal managers are looking to the development of municipal incinerators around the periphery of their cities as a first solution in many countries 82. Incineration requires appropriate technology, infrastructure, and skilled workforce to operate and maintain the plant 83. Waste incineration is thermal treatment of waste mainly employed for hazardous waste treatment as a standard. MSW incineration in Malaysia is until now only realized as small-scale incinerators on islands, namely Langkawi, Pankor, Tioman and Labuan. The installed seven mini-incineration plants have a capacity of 5-20 tons per day and are operated only once per week due to high operation costs. For Kuala Lumpur one waste gasification pla nt with a capacity of 1,500 tones per day was planed but never realized because of social protests 14, 36. The energy potentials of municipal solid waste in Malaysia was assessed by Kathirvale et al. 22 and found that The calorific value of the Malaysian MSW ranged between 1500 and 2600 kcal/kg. Because China is thought to be the center of the Earth and the third largest country in the world (after Rus sia and Canada). The country has the largest population in the world. China is a time-honored country it has more than 5000 years history. The culture of china is more traditional and conservative. After China joined the World Trade physical composition (WTO), many retail investors from all over the world are developing quickly in China. They are expanding their market size and share, thus Chinese retailers are facing more severe competition. Chinas economy under the past 30 years has changed from a centrally planned system that was huge closed to multinationalistic trade to a more market-oriented economy. It has a rapidly increasing private sector and is a major player in the global economy. China is a rapidly rising global economic power. Overall growth has an average which between 7 to 8 percent for more than 10 years, with some markets expanding much more rapidly In terms of the population of 1.3 billion, China presents the largest consumer market which is the most populous na tion in the world. According to The World Factbook (2010), the labor force in China is 813.5 million in 2009 and it is the first rank if compare to the world. The government of China is very stability for foreign company to do international business in these days. In June 2010, China raised their foreign investment to the second-highest even the global economic recovery show signs of weakening.4.2 Competitor media analysisMonster has a competitor-Red Bull operable/energy drink. Red Bull energy drink is one of the earliest brand names in the field of functional/energy drinks in the world. Through the long-term ontogenesis and publicity, the Red Bull has been spread into the countries of Asia. It coming into being 40 years ago in the pulchritudinous South East Asian countryThailand, is one of the earliest brand names in the field of functional/energy drinks in the world. Through the long-term development and publicity, the Red Bull has been spread into the countries of Asia. Although the other energy drinks such like Red Bull has already spread in Chinese market. Through Medias and promotion, the Red Bull brand had been widely known in China within two years.4.3 All about MonsterUnlike Most companies, monster energy drink has their characteristics, they did not spend plenty of money to advertising and promotion to tell customers how good their products are, they choose to support scene, bands, athletes and fans. Monster sponsors athletes so they can make a career out of their passion. Monster is way more than an energy drink for customers. Energy drink is the quite new Market in China, and the put on competitor is Red bull, thus Monsters package will be very different from red bull as it is in U.S.A now. Marketers will also do the localization to fit in the one of largest market in the world, for example using Chinese character. According to the income level in China, marketers will decide an unobjectionable price, and the red bulls price in china is definite ly our reference, we will make the price 5% lower than red bull.In 2010, Monster Energy will expand their market and release their products to other countries. most companies spend their money on ad agencies, TV commercials, radio spots, and billboards to tell customers how good their products are, but Monster does not, they choose to support scene, bands, athletes and fans. Monster sponsors athletes so they can make a career out of their passion. Because the Monster Energy Drink focuses on urban market and young customer base, the media choice and media strategy adopted should reach its aims. Brand awareness and image are necessary to succeed. Campaign must connect with the target to encourage trial purchase and eventually brand loyalty. In order to gain enough attractions for this campaign, rational investment in media and unremitting efforts for advertising are demanded. There are some effective ways helping for advertising this campaign. Firstly, television, as a major staple in any campaign, gives a direct demonstration of the advantages of Monster. A profile match strategy will be implemented in TV media approach. Prime time television advertisement in Teens channels and X sports programs is very efficient, such as Adventure and Skate board TV show. Secondly, mobile Billboard is a good choice of advertising. It draws attention to a message by sending it directly to the customer. It could reach a particular demographic target and achieves market saturation. Thirdly, well use of transit is very important too. Through penetrating every part of community, it delivers high-profile exposure near point-of-purchase location. We will find the largest drink distributor in the world which is also running business in China to support Monster energy drink, therefore Coca cola will also be our partner in China, same as in U.S.A. In terms of Promotion, we will follow the same methods what Monster now is doing in U.S.A, which is not doing advertising much, but sponsor a nd support the local athletes, bands, and sport events.4.4 LimitationEnergy drink is a quite new product in the world, thus a lot of information is too hard to reach, and there are rare studies related to energy drink, so the resources researchers can get is limited. In addition, according to our research purpose, during the seminar, all of researchers have concur that Energy drink is a specific market and different from other soft drinks, it should be individual analyzed, hence, we set up Monsters opponents which are energy drinks companies only. And this decision has become our restriction during the research, because we all focused on energy drink companies, and assumed them as Monsters only opponents.CONCLUSIONTo sum up, Energy drink is a new campaign in drinks companies, and this market is not only enlarging, but lucrative. Everyone drink company wants to be the first brand in this field. As forward chapters discussed, Red-bull and Monster are considered to be the first-two b rands in energy drinks. The competition between them is keen. How can Monster be won in this campaign? In this study, researchers all agreed that Monster should pay more attention on overseas markets, and the reasons is, the endorsers of Monster are all based in USA, but worldwide famous in their own audiences, on the other words, their followers are everywhere crossing over the world, thus Monster should utilize this opportunity to introduce their product broadly, and build up their brand image as well. For example, Energy drinks in most oriental countries is not common at the moment, consumers there are still need to be developed, Monster should try to be there as the first arrived energy drink, and then proceed to branding themselves as the first brand energy drink through most common social medias, meanwhile doing the same method as they are still working on in USA, sponsor the local stars and sport event, localizing themselves, furthermore, while Monster is worldwide everywhere , they can earn not only income but also the reputation, this could be another positive instrument for Monster to win the competition in their hometown USA. Researchers believe this way could be help for Monster energy drinks future business

Long Term Effects of Concussions in SportsConcussions in Sports and The complications Concussions whitethorn guard on a soulAbstractThis paper is going to discuss disasters in sports and the complications this whitethorn sire on a person in later portions of life. Concussions butt happen at any epoch or in anyway. more or lessone can be vie on the swings and falls off the swings and can ask over a cuff if they hit their head or be playing a sport and get hit in the head by a junkie or fake. Concussions can be worse if it happens repeatedly. We will discuss the complications on what can happen if you receive many concussions while playing sports. We all kat once playing sports can have its issues either by receiving a serious c arer ending injury or an injury that can have a perdurable effect on a life after sports. But did you know there is a serious injury in sports that can have a big impact on life after sports, the injury I am talking about is Concussions. All Concus sions can happen in varied flakes of ways such as getting tackled too many times or getting hit in the head after a tackle. acquiring hit in the head in any sport can be painful and can have serious issues. So why is concussions a very big deal, well lets look at it in a simple way. Youre playing a sport, lets say football and youre the quarterback and youre playing a game, you get tackled and you get hit in the head. Your head hits the ground. At first you whitethorn or may not feel anything, or may not have any symptoms but what happens when you hit your head is that the hotshot gets knocked around inside the skull like a balloon filled with water being tossed around. When the brain gets knocked around, serious damage can happen to the brain matter or brain tissues. So you may be asking what a concussion is. well(p) the definition of a concussion is basically when your brain gets tossed around in the skull and suffers damage to the tissues on the brain. How can you get a concu ssion, you can get a concussion by a direct blow to the head, neck, face or elsewhere on the body with a force thats being transmitted to the head. The sequels can be rapid onset of short impairment of the brain or impairment, and can largely have a functional disturbance thats greater than morphologic injury. So what happens to the brain during a concussion? Well first the adult brain is a 3 pound organ that floats inside the skull and is surrounded by cerebral spinal fluid which commonly acts as a shock absorber almost like a shock absorber in a car. When the brain is locomote rapidly inside the skull, the brain bounces off the skull which political campaigns a concussion which has technically happened. Research from McGill University in Montreal found out thaSo to relate this to the statement beforehand this example, I have a friend who received trauma to the head and instead of being taken out of the match that he was participating in to see if he had a concussion he decid ed to get back into the match. He decided not get treatment until he started tonicity the symptoms. This is a prime example of what not do to treat a possible concussion. It is best if you get early recognition of a concussion. But alas this is easier said than done. Unlike muscles or bone injuries, when your brain gets a bump or bruise, you wont feel any pain. And unlike illnesses a concussion may present parents or coaches with a situation they are not prepared to handle. So you wont be able to recognize the order of a concussion. . Age factors have a distinct role in concussion management be nonplus when it comes to dealing with sports concussions, a lot of research demonstrates that high enlighten athletes take longer to recover from a concussion then when compared to a collegiate or professional athlete. But high condition athletes also may experience greater or severe symptoms and more neurological disturbances. The research also estimates that 53% of high educate athlet es have sustained some type of concussion before high instruct. And 36% of collegiate athletes have a history of multiple concussions. The frontal lobes of a human brain continues to be development until the age of 25 years old. So it is vital to manage and monitor concussions from an early age to make sure no severe outcomes happen. Some seekiness factors that are obtained from a sport related concussion, have been researched and suggests that a person who has had a prior history of concussions are 1-2 times more susceptible to receive a second concussion, a third concussion is 2-4 times more likely to happen from the previous concussion. If that person has received three previous concussions in their life then they are 3-9 times more likely to get a fourth concussion and even a fifth concussion may follow. Certain studies show that females are more likely to get severe concussions than males. Females tend to have more symptoms than men and require more overall time to recover. The reason for these differences are because there are various differences in the brain functions. Also if you have a history of developmental disorders, Mental disorders or psychiatric disorders and have had a history of headaches, migraines these can play a part in a concussions. There are long term consequences of having a concussion. Some of the long term effects of concussions are having development of mild cognitive impairments (MCIs), chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE) and other types of outcomes including having post-concussion syndrome (PCS).Post-concussion syndrome is a complex disorder that has a variable combination of concussion symptoms, which are like having headaches and dizziness. These can fit for weeks and sometimes even months after the injury has occurred. People who have PCS usually have symptoms that occur within the first 7 to 10 days and usually go away within 3 months, but can also last for a year or more. Some factsCDC estimates 1.6 to 3.8 million conc ussions happen each year.5-10% of all athletes will have some type of severe concussion in any sport season during their sports career.Fewer than 10% of sport concussions involve a loss of consciousnessFootball is the biggest sport with concussions, with males being at risk (75%)Soccer is also the most common sport with concussions in females (50%)78% of concussions have occurred during the game(s).Headaches (85%) and dizziness (70-80%) are more commonly reported symptoms than other types of symptoms of concussions.Estimates of 47% of all athletes have not reported feeling any symptoms after a concussive blow.Pro football role frauds will receive an estimated 900 to 1500 blows to the head during the season which result in at least one concussion. The impact speed of a professional boxers punch is around 20 mph which could seriously do damage to the brain. The impact speed of a football player tackling a stationary player is around 25 mph, which can not only cause damage to the brain but also to the body if hit incorrectly. The impact speed of a soccer ball being headed by a player is around 70 mph.So lets go into each sport to see what the findings on concussions are. The first sport is American football, football is associated with the highest takings of traumatic brain injuries in males and has the highest participants than any other sport. Because of the difficulties of determining brain injuries or examining concussions, it is better to compare the injury trends over a long distributor point of time. Catastrophic brain injury has been defined as a head injury that has been caused by direct contact during a competition or sport related activity, these can be fatal, nonfatal permanent or serious nonpermanent injury. The next sport is baseball/softball, players or participants that play in this sport as of 2008 were 10,916,754 high school men and 23,517 high school women, to boot 616,947 men competed at college level. Early reports of concussions were hard to diagnose or were under diagnosed by the trainers, coaches and aesculapian professionals. Concussions usually happen if the baseball or softball is hit with a bat and hits a player in the head or if a player is trying to dive, run or sliding to either catch the ball or slide into a base and sometimes while performing these activities they may hit their head on the ground against a player or even sometimes against a wall.A third sport is basketball now I really havent hear of many concussions happening in this sport I have heard of a couple incidents where this in reality has happened. Participation of basketball participants are approximately 13.8 million in high school along with 11 million in high school and additionally 375,000 men and 328,000 women competed in college basketball. The way to receive a concussion in this sport is relatively awkward in the way it happens.I have heard that when players jump to the net and fall sometimes they may slip and hit their head on the cour t or even sometimes when they are running across the court they may not be able to fully stop and run into or jump into the crowd and may hit their head. at a time concussions in this sport is relatively rare. Another sport is cheerleading, the participation in this sport is mostly made of females and is estimated 3.5 million cheerleading participants. Cheerleading is regarded as a sport that usually has concussions and is associated with risk catastrophic head and spine injury. The routines that the cheerleaders do are risky and can cause severe injury. Gymnastic routines are what causes most of these types of injuries such routines are tumbling runs, human pyramids, lifts, catches, and tosses.Gymnastics is also within the group of cheerleading and has a participation field of more than 100,000 men and 640,000 women who compete in high school and an additional 15,000 and 40,000 women compete in college.Ice/field hockey game also have a high rate of concussions due to pucks hittin g a player or being by a player in the boards or on the field, the participation of players are approximately 723,000 men and 752,500 women competed in high school and an additional 27,800 men and 2,800 women play ice hockey each year. And around 2008 approximately 3000 men and 1.43 million women competed in high school field hockey with an additional 145,000 women competed in college.Soccer is another sport where concussions are most likely to happen. Participation of this sport is around 7.2 million men and 5.2 million women contend in high school and an additional 430,000 men and 322,000 women competed in college. The way you can get a concussion in this sport is actually in many ways either by heading the ball with you head getting hit in the head by another players head or even getting hit in the head by a goal keeper when the keeper is trying to save the ball. I personally have had a concussion in this sport too. But mine was by my own goal keeper. I was blocking an opposing player and my keeper had the ball when he kicked the ball, the ball actually came at me instead of lifting into the air like it was supposed to, the ball hit me directly in the face. I of course went consume and blanked out, I was immediately taken out of the game and when my team arrived to the school my parents were not notified of what happened by the coach but by another parent who happened to be attending the game, I was taken to the doctors the next day when I was told I had a concussion I was told not to participate for a week or so till I recouped. So in conclusion sports related concussions can be dangerous if not reported and treated. Brain injuries can cause after effects to a person even up to a year.ReferencesBuzzini SRR, G. K. (2006). Freak Out: The 1960s Musical Avant-garde Revisited Essay -- Musicals

Freak Out The 1960s Musical Avant-garde RevisitedThis is my happening and it freaks me out Z-man Barzel in Beyond the valley of the Dolls (1970)The title of this essay Freak Out The 1960s Musical Avant-garde Revisited invites me to explore the explosion of new ideas that permeated many forms of western musical expression in the 1960s. When I was given a new course to teach at the University of Guelph called The Musical Avant-garde (2002) no one could quite tell me what they meant me to teach, except that it would give chase all that difficult music of the second half of the 20th century. By this my colleagues meant serious European art music by gold-plate composers such as Pierre Boulez, Karlheinz Stockhausen, Luigi Nono, Luciano Berio, and Gyorgy Ligeti.Shortly after the end of WWII, the new music coalesced around the Darmstadt summer courses in composition where these young European composers, cut complete from each other during the war, rediscovered the music of early 20th cent ury modernists such as Arnold Schoenberg, Alban Berg and especially Anton von Webern, and were inspired by their radical ideas of creating new systems for comprise music. Young European composers didnt try to write music like Schoenberg and Webern, rather they took to heart these composers basic principles the idea of pre-ordering musical elements (serialization) and the idea of treating each well-grounded as a discrete event, independent of the sounds around it. From these two premises, all sorts of exciting new ground was opened up from rigorous compositional carry to the notion that one could choose to leave things wide open to chance - so that by the 1960s musical elements such as tone saturation and texture took the place of traditional ha... ... our site but under no conditions are the texts and images to be copied and mounted onto another site server.
